Inactivation of Coronavirus OC43 by Excimer Lamp, UV Lamp, and Deep UV-LED at Irradiation Wavelengths of 222 nm, 254 nm, and 275 nm

A viral fluid containing coronavirus OC43 was smeared onto plastic surfaces and irradiated with light at wavelengths of 222, 254, 275 nm emitted by an excimer lamp, ultraviolet a deep LED, respectively. After irradiation varying durations, the virus on surface collected activity measured to compare inactivation capabilities three wavelengths. We found that 275-nm from LED exhibited inactivating effect greater than or equal 254-nm UV lamp is used as sterilizing device in general applications. The results demonstrated potential for infection control ongoing fight against novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2.
